  • Trout Season

Trout season got going early this year, and it continues to get better. Decent hatches have offered dry fly fishing and kicked off what should be a couple of good months of prolific hatches. This is the time to fish streamers between hatches for some of the bigger, more aggressive fish. May is one of the best months anglers simply don't fish — get out and experience it!

We specialize in fly fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout, steelhead, salmon, carp, smallmouth bass and brook trout. Our mayfly and caddis hatches are prolific and widespread. Our most notable are little black stoneflies, Hendricksons, Black Caddis / Mother’s Day Caddis, Mahoganies (Mahogany Duns), Borcher’s Drake (Black Quills) Isonycias (Maroon Duns, White Glove Howdys, Slate Winged Drake), Brown Drakes, The Hex Hatch (Michigan Caddis, Troutsman hex, Canadian Soldier, Hexagenia Limbata), Tricos, Light Cahills, and others. When the hatches are not cooperating, we cast big streamers for trophy trout. We fish mostly from a drift-boat but can and do get out to wade fish especially when we have a good riser tucked in a place that requires a little stealth. We use equipment from a number of leading manufacturers including Sage, Scott, and Redington Rods, Lamson, Ross, Bauer, and Nautilus Reels, Rio and Scientific Anglers Fly Lines and hand tied flies by myself, Jerry Regan, and other local tiers as well as flies from wholesale companies including Rainys flies, Orvis and Umpqua Feather Merchants. Come fish while visiting Traverse City whether you’re here for the National Cherry Festival, a summer vacation with the family, golfing our many golf courses in and around Traverse City, the Traverse City Film Festival or while here on business.
